Another Trails Building Guide
Tools Needed:
·Shovels - the number of shovels needed depends on the number of riders that work at the trail have at least two of each so more than one person can work at as time and there is always an extra.
·Hoe - Digs up dirt and can be used to carve out lips.
·Wheelbarrow - to build jumps up quicker and to move good dirt (like clay or loom) from one place to where you’re building, also can hold all tools when done.
·Roller/Bikes - the roller is used 2 smooth out the jumps and smooth out surrounding areas; bikes can be used for the same thing.
·Water - if you have a hose it works the best but water is needed to harden jumps (explained later).
·Friends - always better to ride with friends also helps to have them around just in case anyone gets hurts.
·You may also require lawnmowers, chainsaws, hedge trimmers, etc to clear out a spot to build.
Find a spot:
OK this is the hardest and of course the most important part.
What to look for:
· Look for a place that is basically clean (no broken glass or anything that can hurt you or your bike).
· Something a hill helps (used as a drop in).
· GOOD DIRT! - You do not want shitty dirt that's going to crumble and rot away on you.
· Population - Try to find a spot that has a low amount of people around (if you can't find something like that then I. would suggest try to play nice with the neighbors and don't let the fathers catch you hitting in their daughters or sons for that matter lol.
What to avoid:
· A nasty shit hole - the complete opposite of what to look for above.
· Avoid old people and try not to put it near any kind of authority figure (cops, fire/rescue, or anything like businesses).
· Avoid shitty dirt and sand.
Your Enemies!!!
1. Moto Riders- Whether there freestyle, racers, or they just do it for fun there bad, very, very bad. Unless u work out an agreement w/ them they will use your drop in as place 2 whole shot and rip everything up, they will also rip the hell out of your jumps and show no mercy on your food (which is the worst part).
2. Friendly neighborhood skater pricks (inline or boarders) well these kids could just want 2 come by and chill out maybe make a home-made halfpipe next door to your shit. Or they’ll destroy it and eat your food in which case kick the shit out of them and nut in their damn eyes!
3. Walkers or Joggers- OK if their or cleared out paths in your trail where people walk their dogs are run through then be nice and don’t make shit on their paths and try as hard as you can to keep dogs away! Ask their owners to let the dog shit elsewhere.
4. Businesses or other land owners- These guys basically care about making money or just keeping their land clean so avoid building on land owned by assholes, cause the next time you come by there going to be a bulldozer waiting for you. So ask before you start to working on other peoples land.
5. Cops!- don’t like the idea of bike riders getting away with having a good time so don’t build next to a police station (like anyone would anyway) , and try not to do anything illegal at your trails (fires, drinking, drugs, etc).
Building your actual jumps!
OK if your making a trail 2 brush up your racing skills then u should know how to and what to build if not you’re a complete fucking idiot! But if you’re a real dirt jumper or you’re just starting then there are really only two basic jumps that will make up your whole trail. These are the double and the table top now to build either one of these your going to need some time and be willing to do some hard work…
The Double
The double is the most basic jump to build and of course the easiest every other jump stems off the double so here is how to build….
Figure out where your going to put it, then get in between where the take off and landing is going to be and start digging. To save time you may want to pile up some old logs or anything else you want out of the way and just throw the dirt on top.
OK now depending on your skill level and balls you want to pile the dirt at least a foot higher then the jump itself (for all those who haven’t learned math or failed it like me that means that if you want a five foot take off then pile the dirt six feet high).
After you have your dirt piled the hard part comes into play time to shape and pack
To pack your freshly made mound get out your bikes, rollers, shovels and water (that’s right water)
Start to go up and down the jump evenly with your roller (or bike if you don’t have one) and do this until it starts to look like a jump. (as you do this water occasionally not to make it mud and mushy but just to get it wet)
Now take your shovels or hoes and start to carve out the lip try to make it a little vertical but not to much
Ok so now you should be all set just throw al little more water on it and leave it to dry (do not ride when wet you’ll put groves in em and mess em all up).
Now you can use doubles to make quads and 6 packs so you can learn to flow, you can also throw table in the mix.
The Table
The table is the second basic jump, it’s basically a double w/ dirt in the middle so it’s one huge wound. I think every trail should have a few doubles cause when u hit a table you feel little safer and for anybody who races it’s good manual practice
For this one of course figure out where it’s going to go, but this time u need to dig from the sides of where it’s going to be or your going to have to transport some.
Ok if possible again throw anything that you don’t need into the middle just so you don’t have to do as much dirt.
Ok now just pile dirt like a bastard! Don’t stop don’t do anything but pile until again your about a foot higher then what the jump is going to be.
So you have a new fresh mound, time to repeat the doubles steps

There’s one extra step, pack down the top just have friends go p there and walk around it should work pretty good.
Berms
The berm is the worst thing to make, honestly I hate it nobody around my trail like to build em but you know we need em so here’s an idea how to do it…
Wherever you turn is that’s gonna be (that’s going to be really sharp) then just pile dirt from the back of it or transport it make it good and high so you can get almost horizontal when you hit it.
Just make a long, high curve of dirt and pack it down like you would a jump.I really don’t know how to explain it but everyone should no what a berm is. So have fun.
My Way
OK my way of making berms is easiest just get the motocross kids or just anybody with a quad or dirt bike and have them go around and around you tern eventually they will kick up enough dirt for you to work with.
Now you have a general idea of how to what to and where to make your trail so go out and have fun! Make doubles tables transfers, berms and anything else your little bike-riding mind can come up with and most of all have fun.
