San Jose, Calif. – September 7, 2006 – Michal Prokop of the Czech Republic took first place in the first round of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup Finals, which was held today as a specialty competition at the fourth stop of the Dew Action Sports Tour, the Toyota Challenge.

“I liked being part of this event,” said Prokop. “The course was very good and I’ve had a very nice time in San Jose.”
Today’s competition is a precursor to what will be seen in Beijing 2008, when BMX Supercross debuts as an Olympic sport. This was the first of two rounds of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup; the second and final round will be held in Fréjus, France, October 6-7, 2006. In BMX Supercross, points are given to individual athletes and to countries in the UCI Nations ranking, which qualifies competing countries into the 2008 Olympic Games.

This is the second consecutive year that the Toyota Challenge hosted the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup Finals. More than 100 athletes from 15 nations participated in San Jose.

The four-day competition is the fourth of five stops of the Dew Action Sports Tour that features skateboarding, BMX and freestyle motocross. The Dew Tour’s next stop is October 12-15 at the TD Waterhouse Centre in Orlando, Fla.

Friday through Sunday, a daily adult ticket is $15 in advance and a child's daily ticket is $7.50 in advance. At the door, tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for children.
