World Cycling Centre’s BMX Track
Seven National Federations are sending their BMX athletes to the World Cycling Centre (WCC) in Aigle, Switzerland, this month to prepare the second leg of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup.
Norwegian BMX rider Sebastian Kartfjord arrived at the WCC yesterday for a week long training camp. Before the end of the month the centre will also host World Cup hopefuls from Italy, the Netherlands, France, Lithuania, Russia and the Czech Republic for training camps lasting between three days and three weeks.
Lithuania’s delegation, Vilma Rimsaite, is no stranger to the WCC facilities: she was a trainee at the centre in 2005, 2006 and 2007. As well as the National Federations, the WCC will host Optimal Training from 26th – 28th March with Anne-Caroline Chausson and Romain Saladini.
Although the aim of most of the training camps is to prepare the Supercross leg in Adelaide, Australia, from 12th – 13th April, the Russian athletes will be preparing the 9th and 10th rounds of the European Championships, which take place one week later in Echichens, Switzerland. The six-strong Russian delegation will be at the WCC from 27th March – 16th April. One of their athletes, Evgeny Komarov, will travel from Aigle to Adelaide for the Supercross before rejoining his compatriots at the WCC.
Meanwhile, the WCC’s own BMX trainees are already on their way to Adelaide to finish their preparation for the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup. The four young athletes Sifiso Nhlapo (South Africa), Yvan Lapraz (Switzerland), Emilio Falla (Ecuador) and Samantha Cools (Canada) will train in Adelaide under the guidance of their coach Hervé Krebs.
The UCI Supercross World Cup, which kicked off in Madrid in February, comprises five legs. After Adelaide, the competition will continue in Copenhagen, Denmark, from 9th – 10th May, Salt Lake City, USA, from 10th – 12th September, and in Fréjus, France, from 10th – 11th October.
